Beans and Sausages

This week, we were back with the Silver Spoon. However, this time, it was a version of the book bought for our children: ‘The Silver Spoon for Children’. We followed the pizza recipe, which was quite good, I must say. Next up was lasagne, a good one. Very tomato-heavy but easy to do, and of course, we used the Thermomix, which took a lot of the pain out of making the béchamel and the meat sauce. The lasagne is good, albeit a little flat in terms of flavour, which I guess is probably fair for most kids cooking it. It reminded me what a great dish lasagna is and how putting one together on a Sunday makes the week a lot easier.

We tried the rather simply titled ‘Beans and Sausages’. Immediately, one thinks that this will be a tomato recipe, but the beans are cannellini beans, actually cooked in the sausage and apple juice. It was really delicious, quite simple, easy to do, and actually something we’ll go back to, I’m sure.

Last up was baked cod with vegetables. This was a great little midweek supper dish. You wrap the cod in prosciutto, chop the vegetables, and put them at the bottom of a roasting tin with tinned tomatoes, then bake the lot together. It was really tasty, really simple, and I think it’s something we’ll go back to.

Next week, we are exploring one of my favourite kitchen gadgets: the Big Green Egg!
