We’ve had the joy of a Thermomix for well over 15 years. Fast and Easy Coooking – Thermomix TM31 Recipe Book by Janie Turner is the book that came with our TM31. We first saw a Thermomix being used by Alan Murchison at the Ludlow food festival years ago. We went to a masterclass of his and later in the day I ended up on stage with him cooking a soufflé in front of a massive crowd. Cooking a soufflé is hard enough, in front of a crowd of a couple of hundred people is tougher, doing it after a few more than ideal pints of cider and craft ale is ill advised, doing it with a chef who is knocking the air out of your mixture and opening the door of the oven is quite terrifying. Suffice it to say everything Alan did had no impact on the soufflé and was all part of the joke. He gave us a book which we’ll cover in a few weeks. The Thermomix is a wonderful piece of kit that you see regularly on Great British Menu and Masterchef. It’s essentially an industrial strength blender that heats up and weighs, times, whips and stirs. It has attachments for steaming as well. When we bought it it was expensive but It is like an extra pair of hands in the kitchen. From the book we cooked French Bread – not bad, the texture and flavour was good. Next up was Hungarian Goulash which we served with Spätzler – we love Spätzler and we’re getting better at making it. The goulash was really good and dead easy. Next up was Fish Couscous – beautifully steamed fish with a fruity, spicy cous cous and veg. This was really light and tasty and actually quite easy for a weekday dinner. Next was Penne with prawns and rocket. Not one for the kids but wow – really really great flavours and dead easy. This recipe would be easy to do without a thermo just a regular blender. Last up was Red Chicken Curry – a pretty good example but not one I think we’ll rush back for. We’re Thermomixing again next time.
