The Slater Strikes back! I do love this book and its predecessor. Sometimes when you are lacking ispiriation, its lovely to be able to open a book on the day of the year that you are at and get something that is likely in season and in Nigel’s case pretty likely to be delicious. The week started with the rather delicious Duck Breasts with Damson Gin and Duck-Fat Potatoes. A couple of cracking little recipes here. The duck was delicious (with sloe gin in our case), and the duck-fat potatoes really were like a big pommes anna – easy to do if you have a mandolin. Next up was Bacon wrapped salmon. The last two weeks have had fish wrapped in bacon. The smokiness of the bacon pairs well with a fish like salmon as you might expect I suppose. Next up was a decent Salmon Curry but nothing remarkable. Nigel’s chocolate and banana cake – the banana making a nice addition to a chocolate loaf. Next week, we’re with one of the legends of the cookbook world – Elizabeth David.
