The Art of the Tart – Tamasin Day Lewis. This is a beautiful little book of tarts of all kinds. What I particularly like is how Tamasin has a section of the book of other people’s recipes that she loves. We were planning on doing more this week but it just didn’t happen. We went for Cherry Tomato Tarte Tatin which I have to say was absolutely exceptional. It was such an easy recipe and was brilliant. Now I didn’t make my own puff pastry (I’ve tried in the past but I haven’t cracked it yet). What I will say though that spending a little more on buying pastry does make a massive difference. The brand I’ve bought recently is Dorset something and it’s probably double if not triple the price of the cheapest frozen pastry and I have to say this is lighter and easier to work with and is delicious. The prep for the tart is so simple: tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, which is reduced, salt, pepper and I think that’s about it. Like all tarte tatins you put the “fruit” in the pan first, add the “caramel”, and the top with pastry and bake. This was fantastic. A cracking recipe.
