Breakfast At the Wolseley is a loving tribute to on of the most iconic London restaurants, The Wolseley. Named after the car manufacturer (it was a car show room at some point in its history) this is a restaurant that almost never closes. Open for breakfast through to late night – at one point it was one of the only restaurants open after shows were over in the west end so you could watch a musical and then head to the Wolseley for a bite to eat. Now this book contains the wonderful Haggis with a Duck Egg and Whisky sauce which is a joy to eat at home but is even better in the surroundings of the Wolseley before heading out for the day in London. The last time I did this was for my brother’s stag day where we had a truly gastronomic day that started at the Wolseley for breakfast. Choosing something suitable for this week’s menu was tricky and I was fast thinking we’d have to miss a book until I landed on Chou au Fromage. Little cheese choux buns. I have to say these were easy to make (I did use the Thermomix – but I get the impression they were probably not that tricky in any case) and were perfect with a cold glass of sherry before what was a memorable lunch with a friend from New Zealand. Definitely one to add to the list for dinner parties. Weirdly we have another NZ connection with the next book.
