Eat by Nigel Slater. Not our most successful week ever, to be honest, but we’re always learning. Eat is another great little cookbook from Nigel Slater, who we love. The book is a bit annoying in the way it is organised – by cooking technique – pan, oven etc. that said, we had a hit and a miss this week. Firstly the miss Katsu chicken – the sauce was really quite bitter, but with the addition of Japanese Mayo, it was balanced out and was actually ok – we totally forgot to photograph it. Later in the week, we did Salmon with Bulgar and Tomato – Nigel’s recipe is with mackerel, but our little ones love salmon, so we went there instead. The sauce involved simply grilling, then skinning tomatoes and adding a little red wine vinegar. The bulgar wheat has to be one of the easiest accompaniments ever. Pour hot stock over and leave it. Awesome!!! Next week it’s English food with Jane Grigson
