This week’s book was: Recipes from my Mother for my Daughter by Lisa Faulkner
We cooked a take on her Roast Pork Belly, but with Pork Shoulder, which used a rub of thyme sage and fennel seed – it was really tasty. Followed up with a Salted Creme Caramel, which was lovely. Sunday night in our house is pizza night, so we made Lisa’s Mummy’s Quick and Easy Chocolate Cake which uses drinking chocolate rather than cocoa or chocolate in the sponge. This makes it a very light chocolate cake (not hugely chocolatey or sweet), but this is compensated with a vanilla buttercream and a dark chocolate glaze. It’s a cracking little cake, and I’m sure we’ll make it again. Monday night was the rather lovely Fish, Chips and Tartare Sauce with Lisa’s Home Made Ketchup. The fish was Halibut, the chunky chips, and the Tomato Ketchup and Tartare Sauce were great. We finished up the week with her Chicken with Katsu Sauce which was pretty good. The Katsu Sauce a touch bitter so maybe we’ll work on that. Next week we’re with Ottolenghi’s Flavour!
