More Playing catch up, this week was Japaneasy by Tim Anderson. Tim won Masterchef a few years ago and we have a couple of his cookbooks. Japaneasy is a cracking book. It turned out to be quite a Japanese food Saturday with us heading over to Westfield shopping centre where there is the fantastic Japan Centre owned Ichiba Japanese supermarket. We had a lovely lunch there, bought ingredients and in the evening, made the wonderful Chicken Yakitori (Chicken on skewers), Chicken Karage (Japanese fried chicken) and Egg fried rice. The Karage was surprisingly easy to do and was a wonderful flavour. Later in the week, we did Ramen with Scallops, Bacon and Eggs. We bought frozen scallops from the Ichiba, and they were great in this recipe; it was a fantastic Ramen and we’ll definitely do it again. Later in the week, we had a night of “The best miso Soup” recipe which was really easy and our first use of Tofu at home, a great little recipe. To round off the week was Tempura of prawns, cod, courgettes, mushrooms and onions. Wow. We both thought Tempura would be a bit of a nightmare to cook – not so at all. It was straightforward and tasty, with a great little dipping sauce.
