Playing catch up: This week’s cookbook was One Perfect Ingredient by Marcus Wearing. This is a great book that we’ve had for a long time. The Gravadlax recipe is a regular at Christmas for us. As usual, when its a cookbook, we used a good bit we looked for new recipes we hadn’t tried. Sunday was the vampire frightening Roast Chicken with 40 cloves of Garlic which we served with another recipe from the book, Gratin Dauphinois with Peas and Leeks. The chicken was great and not overly garlicky at all. The dauphinoise was ok but not the greatest incarnation of this classic that we’ve done – a real shame as it sounded brilliant on paper. In the week, we tried Sea Bass with a Pinenut Crust, which was every bit as good as it sounds, one to definitely try again. A cracking little lunch was Asian Coleslaw with Chicken – similar to a Vietnamese Chicken Noodle Salad that we do from a Jo Pratt “In the Mood for Food” cookbook. Another belting dish this week was Linguini with Rocket and Cashew Pesto. This version of pesto made a real change, and the simple pasta dish will be one we do again. We made the delicious White Onion and Thyme Veloute for lunch in the week and rounded the week off with Chicken with bacon and pesto, though we changed the pesto to Jamie Oliver’s brilliant Pesto recipe! All in all, One Perfect Ingredient was a great book that brought us some new ideas and recipes we can use again.
