This week’s cookbook was James Martin’s Desserts. We only did two recipes this week from the book, but they were pretty good. The first recipe was Baked Alaska. Baked Alaska is one of my absolute favourite desserts when I see it on a menu (not often). This particular incarnation had a homemade sponge, ice cream, strawberries, and Italian meringue (blowtorched) served with a fresh raspberry sauce. Recipe number two was Chocolate Cola Cake – yep, a chocolate cake made with cola. This created a wonderfully moist cake (and you obviously can’t taste the cola), and not as sweet as you might imagine. A couple of good recipes to add to the repertoire. Next week we have a cookbook from a Michelin star pub in Yorkshire, which has been on our list to visit for years, but we never have.
