Sorry for not posting for a little while – no reason just life’s been busy!
This time, as I said, we’re heading to Middle Earth – well, perhaps not entirely, but it is a book from New Zealand. It was bought for me by Nic and Simon, my sister and brother in law for my birthday in 2013. The book is Fleur’s Place, an iconic restaurant in NZ known all over the world. We’d visited NZ a few years before Nic and Simon, but we didn’t make it to this restaurant. The book is signed by Fleur herself and reads: “Kia Ora Jeremy, enjoy our recipes from our small fishing village – that your family Nicole and Simon have wished you were here to devour lunch with them – Nan Mai, Here Mai, Fleur 2013 – Moeraki”. The book is organised by season, and we went across seasons. We started the week with a beautiful Irish stew which thickened the sauce with potatoes in a rather neat way. We made fruit of the Forrest jam (not entirely what Fleur made – hers was just black currant ours a bit more mixed) and coupled it with Fleur’s rather wonderful Girdle scones (scones cooked on the stove) – these are great. A final couple of recipes were a brilliant Chocolate Marquise – which though lovely on the day made, on day two was fabulous, and we finished the week with a tasty “Old Fashioned Almond Cake” which are a little bit like Cantuccini -which I had with a cuppa this morning. All in all, Fleur’s cookbook was great to cook from. Next up is an exploration of Chinese Cookery!
