This week’s cookbook (we’re in week eight of 2021) was Vegetables by Antonio Carluccio. I use this book from time to time when I need some inspiration for some unused vegetables from the week’s cooking. This is the first time I’ve used it for inspiration for what to cook and buy and In one case, wow, did it inspire me. So Sunday lunch was Baked kid with onions and potatoes. Finding goat wasn’t tricky, but the lead time wouldn’t work, so we went with Antonio’s Lamb suggestion. We used lamb shoulder and served it with the lovely Carrots with garlic. Sunday evening, we had a spread of charcuterie vegetables, bread, and cheese served with Bagna cauda, which is a garlic and anchovy hot dip for dipping your vegetables in. We also did Antonio’s Orecchiette with broccoli as a delicious mid-week pasta dish. However, the star of the show this week was, without a doubt, the carrot cake. This carrot cake was unlike any other cake or any other carrot cake for that matter that we’ve ever tasted. It’s like a carrot Victoria sandwich (the sponge is flavoured with carrot), and you make a carrot and cardamom jam to fill it. All I can say is, wow, it was terrific. Next week is Thai.
