This week’s cookbook on the cookbook shelves journey was The Family Meal by Ferran Adria – this is a collection of recipes that they used at the very famous restaurant elBulli in Spain. But these are the recipes that the staff ate for what they called the “family meal,” which was the meal all 75 members of the team sat down to before the evening service. What we liked about this book was that all the meals are set out for three courses, and the food is straightforward – quite a departure from the cuisine at elBulli. This week we had two menus of starter, main, and dessert. Menu 1 was Ceasar salad, cheeseburger and potato crisps, and Santiago cake and menu 2 was melon with cured ham, rice with duck, and chocolate cake. This week’s outstanding dishes were the Ceasar salad and burger and the rice with duck which was, without doubt, the recipe of the week. Next week we have a slightly tricky book of just vegetables….
